Overview
The crown jewel of Pacific Heights is the 12 story 1924 Beaux Arts apartment house located at 2006 Washington Street designed by Conrad A. Meussdorffer, the premier architect of luxury apartment houses in San Francisco. Following the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915, he is credited for bringing high style multi-story luxury housing to a neighborhood dominated by large single family homes.
No. 2006 is prominently located on the crest of Pacific Heights across from the verdant Lafayette Park and enjoys the ever-changing hues of the sea and sky and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge from dawn to dusk. The 100' frontage provides for a beautifully landscaped courtyard with flowing fountain and seasonal blooms. The handsome driveway turnabout is paved in an antique brick herringbone pattern leading to the vaulted porte cochere and lobby.

History of the Architect
Conrad Alfred Muessdorffer was born in San Francisco in 1871, the son of German parents who emigrated to San Francisco in 1853. He worked for the architectural firm of Salfield & Kohlberg, first as a draftsman, and promoted to architect in 1895. He went on to partner with Victor de Prosse, mainly designing commercial buildings before opening his own practice in 1897 at age 26.
Meussdorffer designed the St. Regis apartments (1908) in Lafayette Park. This luxurious Beaux-Arts building at 2500 Gough Street established him as the architect of choice for San Francisco's one per cent. His buildings at 2006 Washington Street (1924) and 2500 Steiner (1927) are considered the finest apartment buildings in San Francisco.
The Noehill.com web page cites 12 apartment buildings and 8 residences in the City designed by Meussdorfer between 1917 and 1928; he designed his own country home and several others in Ross as well.
